We finally had a little break in the weather on Thursday and I was able to get my tomato plants in the ground. It has been raining almost everyday for about a month now and I was beginning to wonder if it ever would happen. This little fellow is a Western Tanager. He and his buddies have been enjoying my bird feeder for about a week now. I guess he decided he owed me a little work in exchange for the free room and board he has been getting. Here he is busily eating bugs in the tomato patch. They are just beautiful birds and no matter how often you see them, you just say WOW. We have enjoyed spotting them and are really hoping they are nesting near by. They usually like the mountains so maybe they are just taking a little vacation before moving on. They are the best looking garden helpers I have ever had.
I love those little birds!I saw my first one a few years ago, and you're right, every time I see one now, I say WOW!
